Alan Montgomery is our Organist & Choir Master and heads all things musical here on 69th Street. A native of Vacaville, California, Mr Montgomery is a recent graduate of the Juilliard School in New York, where he earned a Master of Music degree while studying with Paul Jacobs. He is currently the U.S. Project Director for Casavant Frères, a pipe organ builder based in Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec. In this role, he oversees the construction of new organs and the renovation of historic instruments throughout the United States.
Before starting at Casavant, Montgomery served as the Associate Organist and Interim Director of Music at the Riverside Church, where he was responsible for the administration of one of the most extensive music programs in New York.
Montgomery holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree from the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied with David Graham, Sophie-Véronique Cauchefer-Choplin, and Andrew Dewar. While in London, he also served as Organ Scholar of St. Mark's, Hamilton Terrace, and Farm Street Church.
As a student at Juilliard, he was the Director of Music at the Church of St. Thomas More on East 89th Street. At St. Thomas More, Mr. Montgomery directed a professional octet, which sang a wide array of choral repertoire, with a focus on more obscure works of the 19th and 20th Centuries.
Founded in 2025, we currently offer one regular service per week - 5pm Choral Mass (Holy Communion) with Choir, Hymns, and Sermon each Sunday.
Our praises are led by Mr Montgomery and a professional ensemble of a core consisting of 4 singers (which ebbs and swells depending on the music on the day) who are well versed in the full repertoire of the Western Church and well trained in the English tradition. We are truly blessed!
Below, please find some of the music you can expect to lead our praises in the weeks to come
